Prior to enrolling on the course, you will receive revision materials containing key principles of law applicable to the practice areas to be studied in this course and to be tested in SQE 1. Whilst there is no face to face teaching of these key principles of law you will be required to test your knowledge and understanding of them throughout the course by undertaking a number of MCQ’s and to build upon this using the resources provided.
The course is designed to build upon the knowledge and understanding of the law and skills that have been gained at undergraduate level. This is achieved through the use of realistic case studies relating to the law and procedure in the context of Dispute Resolution, Property Law and Practice, Business Law and Practice, Criminal Law and Practice and Wills and the Administration of Estates and Trusts.
You will then complete either a dissertation of 6,000 word dissertation focusing on a topic of research based on legal practice or two online bespoke electives relevant to work in practice. You will have the benefit of a dedicated academic supervisor for your dissertation and will be able to request one-to-one meetings for guidance.

How You’re Taught
SQE 1 AND SQE 2 Preparation Modules
Long Weekly Workshops
E-Learning Activities
E-learning activities and online worksheets and practices will be integrated within the programme of study and will be designed to encourage interaction with learning, and to provide opportunities to confirm understanding.
In particular, students will be given a considerable number of formative assessments based on multiple choice questions at the beginning and throughout the first part of the course since this is the chosen mode of examination for the SQE 1.
SQE 2 preparation will take place after you have taken your SQE 1 assessments. The teaching for these modules will be predominantly in small group sessions of two hour duration, through the vehicle of the case studies relevant to the specific subject areas, and with the tutor acting as facilitator. These skills-based activities will take place in smaller groups allowing for an individualised learning experience.
Learn by Doing
The sessions adopt and promote an action-based learning approach, which can be described as “learning by doing”. You will undertake problem solving exercises, analyse case studies, take part in simulations, and actively engage in the subject matter in order to gain the practical skills required to be a qualified solicitor.
Progressive and Integrated Approach
Seminars
Seminars will take place over five weekends in year one and four weekends in year two. Innovative and engaging learning resources are provided between the teaching weekends.
Course Fees
Fees to be confirmed.
It should be noted that your fees for this preparation course do not include the costs of the Solicitor’s Qualifying Examination, which is a centralised assessment prescribed by the SRA and which is external to the University award relating to this course.
